Toasting Spring at the Library

  • JMRL Northside Library 705 West Rio Road Charlottesville, VA, 22901 United States (map)

Bloom in April alongside Marietta in Charlottesville! Join in for a lively, interactive talk on her latest book titled Leaving 1203: Emptying a Home, Filling the Heart. Her heart swelled every day as she emptied her beloved childhood home, and her gratitude and joy continue to grow like 1203 daffodils. Come with questions and expect a good time—Marietta will display a show-and-tell of a few poignant treasures you can browse before and after the discussion. Imagine her delighted surprise as home emptier, the most rewarding job of her life, upon discovering: a photo of her teenage grandmother and her siblings, taken during the 1918 pandemic… an aerial compass used by her lieutenant dad-to-be for landing rescue planes in the Pacific, tucked into his 1942 messenger bag, along with telegram exchanges with his girlfriend, her mom-to-be… her mother’s hidden songbook of almost-recorded hits and a worn eggbeater still spinning lessons for good living. How did Marietta empty this home cherished by four generations? What happened? Where is….

Signed copies of Leaving 1203 will be available for purchase and personalizing. Register: www.jmrl.org or call (434) 973-7893 ext. 4. Masks are recommended but not required.
